特朗普在推文中表示，过去2天，美中就两国之间贸易关系进行坦诚且具建设性的对话，而他与中国国家主席习近平的关系仍非常坚实，且未来也会持续对话；美方已对中方商品实施关税措施，至于会不会撤除，将取决于未来谈判情况。

中国国务院副总理刘鹤9日抵达华府，与美国贸易代表赖海哲、财政部长米努勤率领的代表团举行第11轮经贸磋商，但双方未达协议，美国10日凌晨起对中国输美商品加征的关税从10%上调至25%。
刘鹤10日上午再度赴贸易代表署（USTR）磋商，会谈近2小时，会后赖海哲与米努勤前往白宫；根据财经媒体CNBC报导，米努勤表示，美中谈判具建设性。
在10日上午谈判前，特朗普针对美中贸易谈判发布多则推文，称与中国的贸易谈判完全不用急，另对额外3250亿美元加征25%关税的流程已开始。
